my car is a few weeks away from running out of auc warranty, and wondering if BMW do a check on it to see if it needs any work. It needs mot and service also, so just seeing if they'll do a check without asking or do I have to ask and do they charge for one?
    Thanks.

I think they do a 'Health Check' every time they're doing anything to it, but whether that'd be sufficiently detailed for your purposes is another matter. :cautious:

Not sure if it's the same for all dealers, but my local dealer just sent me a letter saying that they'd give the car a thorough complimentary check of my car's vital systems and components.

Yes they do. I have a letter from the selling dealership and my local one both asking me to book the car in for it's warranty check and stating they will fix anything that requires attention. They also offer to perform the first MOT

    That sounds like good service.

Will they then repair occurring faults under warranty?

I had the same as pinewood. Just before the warranty ran out on 23 October 2016, they (North Oxford Garage) carried out a complete check of the car when they carried out the MOT. Yes naturally they repair faults, that is the very reason for the check.

Immediately following this, I took out the BMW Insured Warranty with the £100 excess.

How much was it for comparison @GunRunner. I'm definitely taking the extended warranty for peace of mind

That is very cheap, the warranty on my old car was £897 with £100 excess (2012, 530d GT)

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it increase as the years roll by and how many miles covered

To get the best price you need to have below 50K miles at the start of the warranty - which I did on my 320d.

IIRC the monthly cost was £57 for comprehensive cover with no excess and Int. Emergency Breakdown Cover included.

Over the 2 and a bit years I had it it only went up once because the government in it's wisdom increased the insurance tax.

I didn't need to make any claims, but the chief worry I had about the timing chain etc. on the M47 engine went away.

I'll definitely be looking to take it out again when the 330d reaches it's 3rd birthday as it is chock full with electrical techy wizardry which would cost the proverbial arm and/or a leg to fix.

AFAIK it doesn't if you pay monthly which is a tad more expensive than paying annually which does increase.

I was never asked for the mileage except at the start.

Yes, but only after 50k miles. My old GT had less than 50k when I sold it, so it was definately under 50k when I took the warranty out, maybe only late 30k's.
I questioned the cost when people on here with 3 series were paying half the price I was and we had the same engine. Makes no sense.

When my car was coming up to 3 years old I found that the clutch seemed to judder a bit sometimes. I took it to Sytner Coventry for its end of warranty check and MOT, and mentioned the clutch judder. They checked it, suspected the DMF, and agreed another date to remove the gearbox and investigate. They found excessive play in the DMF and replaced the DMF and clutch, all under warranty, no quibbles, and lent me a courtesy car whilst mine was in. Sytners service was excellent, and they kept me informed about how they were getting on (they needed to strip it to ascertain what was needed, then order the parts for the next day, then reassemble it, so it was a 3 day booking).

When the manufacturer's warranty expired I took out the Mondial warranty for peace of mind. From memory, it cost around £675 with a £250 excess. Fortunately, I haven't had to claim on it (yet!).

I've got a test drive in a G30 booked for next week, but I'm not sure that it makes economic sense to change mine yet. I've only done 32k miles in 3.7 years. I'm curious to see how the G30 compares with my F10 though.

That is about the same as mine was at the 3 year point in October 2016. It is now just over 30k miles, so it will be interesting to see what both our quotes are!

So I cant understand why mine was nearly double the cost at similar mileage.
