Hi all, new here but have been reading for a while..

Am looking to get a 330D F30 MSport (no x drive! but hopefully LCI if I can afford) second hand and am wondering what mileage is best? I mean in terms of when would the services been done, maybe any niggles from new sorted etc. Ideally mileage as low as possible so it feel like a new car but already have done any expensive stuff if you know what I mean. If you can help with a mileage range that would be great?

Looking forward to driving a BMW.

    Cheer!

    Welcome here. (y)

Not an expert myself, but many around here so expect some useful advice!

I would think some idea of your budget would probably be handy.

Cheers thank! I'd say 17K but up to 20k for a nice one.

Mileage is largely irrelevant on a newer car as long as its below 50k miles as that is usually when the brake disc's would need replacing and the warranty gets a little more expensive (If you are thinking of extended warranty). I don't know about the prices of the 3 series but an Lci 330d for £17K sounds like a big ask? Don't forget even the oldest Lci models are 15 reg.
Do you know what spec you want?

Not sure about spec yet, just researching the different (confusing) BMW options. Generally, not too fussed about mod cons as long as it drives nice.

I think the main thing is that it has the normal Sport suspension and not the soft one in the xdrive, the 8 gear auto box, professional media would be nice but it costs a lot more, 18 inchers

Not sure what other options are recommended?

In that case @Singvogel is your man as he has that exact car minus the pro media. I'm sure he'll be along in a minute with some pointers.

I believe all 330d's have the 8 speed auto.

HUD would be nice, but not essential.

I would avoid Comfort Access. Could be expensively troublesome.

    Welcome aboard,

have run my 330d since March 2015 just turned 20,000 miles.
Range from a tank seems to hover around 500 miles.
As regards mpg I make progress when I can and always return low 40's.
Can't think of a single reason not to buy one.
Good luck with the search! try and find an M Sport plus.

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

ps why not a F31 (much better looking;))

From memory M Sport plus is a package that could be added to give bigger front brakes, 19" wheels, sun protection glass and HK surround sound audio. If you want to stick with 18" wheels than the M Sport plus is not for you.

Welcome to the forum. I have the F30 330d XDrive, and from what's said above, it is the MSport+ with performance brake package, 19 inch wheels and HK surround sound system. It also has the adaptive MSport suspension which soaks up the rough roads in COMFORT mode but firms up when SPORT is selected. I would recommend adaptive suspension if you can find a car that has it. Far better than the normal suspension.

I've been delighted with the 330d in the 2 years that I've owned it. No real dislikes and for a performance 3 litre diesel it's quite frugal, returning approx 41 mpg o/all and up to 50+ mpg on long runs. :)

Welcome to the forum @stellamaris5 - nice user name 'Star of the Sea' :)

My F30 330d M-Sport is 20 months old and is coming up to 25K miles.

Over that time it has averaged 46.23 according to my calculations and 47mp if you prefer to believe the computer gizmo.

On a long journey I can get 49.5mpg - perhaps I would get more if we weren't habitually loaded full to the gunwales on the foreign trips.

As for the range of the 57 litre tank - I can fill up in Aberdeen and my next fuel stop is Calais. :D

This not much worse that my previous E92 320d M-Sport which returned an average of 48.5 over some 35K miles given identical use.

    2mpg difference between a 320d and a 330d is pretty good IMHO.

As we intend keeping this car for a good few years Mrs S and I put a lot of thought into the spec and test drove several demonstration models with varying equipment before settling on this:

    Glacier Silver
    Black Dakota Leather
Brushed Aluminium Trim with Black High-Gloss Trim

    ZAS Active Security Package
    ZAP Advanced Parking Package
    ZIC Interior Comfort Package
ZVI Visibility Package with 552 Icon Adaptive LED Headlights
    2VF Adaptive M-Sport Suspension
    3AC Electric Towbar
    420 Sun Protection Glass
    248 Heated Steering Wheel
    494 Heated Front seats
    502 Headlight Wash

The power is stated as 190 - that's in Kilowatts - equal to 258bhp.
    0 to 60mph/100kph is 5.6s

Plenty enough power for me - I regularly cruise at around 95 to 100mph on the autobahnen, with occasional bursts up to 130mph where traffic allows (and that is getting less and less these days. :( )

I have no regrets about any of the options that I chose - and no regrets either about the options I chose NOT to get.

Feel free to ask about any of the spec and/or why I made those choices.

For me the adaptive suspension and the adaptive LED light are now a 'must have on any future car.

You are right in that the x-drives do not have M-Sport suspension - neither do the F31 touring versions IIRC.

The 330d is the biggest diesel you can get in a 3er with rear wheel drive - i.e. the 335 is x-Drive only.

All diesel 3er 6 cylinder cars are auto - the ZF 8-speed sport auto box is superb - the best I've driven.

19" wheels usually give too harsh a ride for me on rough roads and the Sport-plus pack's bigger brakes would prevent me fitting my 17" alloys with Winter tyres.

There is no better vehicle suited to the type of journeys we make regularly to the South-East of Europe - we are off on Sunday on a 2500 mile/4 day run to BiH.

We have been going there at least twice a year for the last 25 years or so and this 330d just eats up the miles in comfort - you can step out after a whole day at the wheel and still feel fresh.

The 320d was a capable long-distance machine too, but the extra 2 cylinders make for a much more relaxed drive - and plenty of 'oomph' in reserve for the Alpine passes we love to explore on the way home.

Get one - you wont be disappointed.

I just checked the current options list - and you're right.

What I think is different is that the x-drives and touring model M-Sport suspension don't have the 1" lower stance that comes on the rear wheel drive saloon models.

I think I need to clarify what I meant by mileage range. Not the tank range for fuel but the mileage of the car if I go for used. Would it be better to get on of 15k or 25k for example. The difference for a diesel is nothing but would it have had its first service done by then or any other update s or common faults fixed etc. Hope this makes more sense.

The first service is due at approx 18,000 miles or 2 years from registration, but it's only an oil change + oil and micro filters. So that's the only difference between the mileages you quote. I wouldn't expect any major faults at 25k on a BMW, or I personally would not have bought one. ;) The manufacturer's warranty lasts 3 years anyway, and many owners opt for the Mondial extended cover, which I probably will do myself.

The difference in ride height of the xDrive is only 1 cm, so less than half an inch. I doubt that anyone would feel the difference, except on a race track. I find the adaptive suspension fairly firm with negligible roll even in the soft setting on my 330d. In comparison, I had a 2017 520d MSport as a courtesy car when mine was serviced and it wallowed around like an old bus.

Ah, right. I'm on my 3rd 30d car E61, F11, and now F31. No hiccups thus far highest mileage of the 3 was the E61 which I changed at 70,000 miles.
These are my personal cars. I have driven numerous 30d engined company cars 3's 5's X5's usually changed at about 120,000 again trouble free.

I would have to say condition of whole vehicle is more important than milage.

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

Just remembered, check the horn, mines been in twice for replacement (No I'm not a horn abuser!)

Looks like the 330d f30 (or F31) without x drive but with adaptive dampers and Led lights , and 18 inch wheels. from 20k miles is the way to go then! Maybe pro media if I can find one.

Cheers all for the advice. The search begins.
